Riveiro 'close' to signing ex-Al Ahly star

A former Al Ahly star is reportedly close to re-joining the Egyptian giants as coach Jose Riveiro looks to bolster his squad after a disappointing FIFA Club World Cup campaign.

The Egyptian side failed to make it past the group stages and failed to win a single game in the United States.

Former Zamalek star Ahmed Hassan claims Al Ahly are now close to signing two players, including former striker Mohamed Sherif.

"A source at Al Ahly: Negotiations with Mustafa Mohamed have been closed, and we are currently working on signing Osama Faisal or Mohamed Sherif," Hassan stated on Facebook.

Sherif, meanwhile, is a free agent after parting ways with Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Khaleej Club.

The Egyptians striker recently dispelled rumours of being approached by Zamalek.

"Zamalek has not contacted me; there may be negotiations with my agent, but I do not personally speak with any club," he said, as per Ysscores.

"This is not true, and usually, we do not discuss the value of the deal at the beginning, rather the club first learns about the player's desire and then the financial compensation is discussed.

"I have a good relationship with Ahmed Hossam Mido, and he developed me a lot when I trained with him at Wadi Degla. As for the claim that Zamalek wants to sign me in response to the Zizo transfer, this is unreasonable, as contracts are made according to the technical needs of each club.

"I have not made my decision about my next destination yet, whether it is returning to Al-Ahly or moving to another club."
