Reports emerging from Morocco claim that Wydad Athletic Club are set to lose both South African duo Thembinkosi Lorch and Cassius Mailula, despite their strong performances in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.
According to Le 360 Sport, the Moroccan giants are planning a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 season, with several players expected to leave including Lorch and diminutive forward Mailula.

Both players are currently on loan, Lorch from Mamelodi Sundowns and Mailula from Toronto FC, and it now appears their short-term deals will not be extended following the Club World Cup.
Recruited by South African coach Rulani Mokwena in 2024 and 2025 respectively, the two attackers arrived with high expectations, and seemingly delivered. They played key roles in helping Wydad secure a third-place finish in the recently ended domestic campaign.
The news of them facing uncertainty futures at the club, comes as a surprise to some, given the duo’s positive impact during the season and Wydad’s spirited, albeit brief, Club World Cup campaign in the United States.
Lorch, known for his flair and creativity, has made a notable contribution to the tournament, including scoring a goal. Mailula, though yet to find the net, has been lauded for his relentless work rate and energy on the field.

If confirmed, the decision would mark the end of a short but memorable chapter for the South African internationals at the North African powerhouse. Both players would be expected to return to their parent clubs, Masandawana and Toronto FC.
Wydad are currently preparing for their final match of the Club World Cup, scheduled for this Thursday against Al Ain FC at Audi Field Stadium. The Red Castle has already been eliminated from the tournament, following defeats to Manchester City and Juventus.
