League title debutants flood Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso’s debut league title will have him joined by another 10 players winning the domestic championship for the first time.

Cardoso will be away at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London on Wednesday (19:30) against Chippa United.

Should they avoid defeat, then Sundowns will be confirmed as champions – this being their eighth consecutive league title.

Sundowns have used 34 players so far this season in the league and just under a third have been newcomers at the club.

The Brazilians have five additions who arrived at the beginning of the season rubbing their hands in anticipation of their first title.

Iqraam Rayners has been having fun with 20 goals in all competitions since he came in from Stellenbosch FC.

Brazilian forward Arthur Sales had a slow start after he came in from Belgium but is now on 17 goals/assists across all competitions.

Asekho Tiwani came in from Sekhukhune United at the start of the season, just like Kegan Johannes, who joined from SuperSport United.

Kobamelo Kodisang came in after having spent five years in Portugal, where his last club was Moreirense.

Coming up the ladder from within the club structures was Malibongwe Khoza, who made his first-team debut last September and has already featured in 29 games.

This will be the first league title with the senior team for Khoza.

The January transfer window had Jayden Adams coming in from Stellenbosch and in that flight, there was Keanu Cupido, signed from Cape Town City.

Lucas Suarez joined on loan in January from Argentine club CA Talleres.

Lebo Mothiba has been the most recent arrival but is yet to play having arrived with fitness concerns after being on the sidelines for months due to injury.

Then, with Kutlwano Lethlaku, after playing once last season, he has been more involved this season and will feel more part of the squad this term despite having spent recent weeks away at the U20 AFCON finals.
