French club to part ways with SA-eligible star

South African-eligible star Ayanda Sishuba is reportedly set to leave his club in the French top flight, just seven months after joining them.

Born to a Belgian mother and a South African father, Sishuba’s career has somewhat stalled in recent seasons.

Aged 20, the young attacker was highly rated in France, having risen from the academy to the first team at RC Lens.

After starring for the RC Lens senior team as a teenager, Sishuba earned a €2.5 million (approximately R51 million) move to Italian side Hellas Verona in August 2024.

However, that stint ended after just six months, as Sishuba completed a return to Ligue 1, this time joining Stade Rennes.

Admittedly, things haven’t improved for the attacking midfielder at Rennes, as he has made only one appearance for the club since his arrival in January 2025.

As such, it is now reported that Rennes are prepared to temporarily cut ties with the player.

According to FootenFrance, Rennes are pushing to send Sishuba out on loan in the French second tier.

Sishuba’s current deal runs until June 2029, but the player is already said to have been notified that he is not in the plans of Rennes manager Habib Beye next season.

Moreover, Sishuba was also not asked to report for pre-season, as his name is on the list of expected exits.

Ligue 2 clubs USL Dunkerque and Clermont Foot have reportedly been offered a chance to sign Sishuba on loan.
