Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you — Borussia Dortmund's new special kit resembles something you may have seen before. Here's a look!
The story
The parallels between Dortmund's recent kits and those of Kaizer Chiefs have arguably never been closer.
Global sports brand PUMA and Borussia Dortmund have unveiled the club’s 2025/26 Cup kit, bringing iconic black and yellow to the forefront once again.

The design pays tribute to Dortmund’s 1965/66 team, the first German side to win a European club competition.
The kit features a tonal print inspired by that historic run and a retro crest, combining tradition with modern style.
Marco Mueller, PUMA’s Senior Director of Product Line Performance Apparel, said: “For the BVB Cup kit this season we wanted to honour this achievement by bringing back a retro crest and integrating a unique tonal all-over print inspired by the floral pattern on the trophy handle, creating a bold all-yellow look with classic black details on the collar and arms.”
From an onlooker's perspective, the kit closely resembles that of one of South Africa's most celebrated clubs, Chiefs.
South African audiences may need a second look, as they could easily mistake BVB's new kit for an Amakhosi jersey.
The yellow colour, front sponsors, and black lining are almost identical to some Chiefs kits released in the past during their time with Nike.
Nevertheless, Dortmund's new kit is available in Authentic and Replica versions. The Authentic Jersey, worn by players, uses PUMA’s ULTRAWEAVE fabric for reduced weight and friction, while both versions feature dryCELL sweat-wicking technology.
The 2025/26 BVB Cup kit is available from 29 August at PUMA retail stores and online at PUMA.com.
