Wydad 'makes' final decision on PSL-admired star

Wydad Athletic Club have reportedly made a final call on the future of their player, who has been linked with Orlando Pirates in the past season.

Recent speculation suggested that Stephane Aziz Ki could be on his way out of the Moroccan club following their early exit from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The 29-year-old midfielder joined the Botola Pro League side from Tanzanian champions Young Africans just last month, in a move that generated significant buzz across the continent.

Aziz Ki, a talented and left-footed playmaker, featured in only two competitive fixtures for Wydad during the Club World Cup, against Manchester City and Juventus FC. He also appeared in a few pre-tournament friendlies, including a clash with FC Porto.

Despite his qualities, the Burkina Faso international has reportedly failed to win the confidence of head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem.

As a result, initial reports suggested that the midfielder was placed on the club’s surplus-to-requirements list, fuelling speculation that Chiefs might swoop in to secure his services.

The Soweto-based giants have long admired Aziz Ki, who previously dazzled in CAF competitions and was instrumental in Yanga SC’s recent domestic dominance.

However, in a surprising twist, a fresh report from AfricaFoot indicates that Wydad have changed their plans and will retain the 29-year-old star for the upcoming season.

It is understood that the midfielder initially signed a short-term contract, with performance-related clauses allowing the club to extend his stay by an additional two years if he met certain expectations.

This latest development will come as a blow to Chiefs, who are in the midst of a squad rebuild and were believed to be monitoring Aziz Ki closely as a potential midfield reinforcement.
