Rwanda coach: If Nabi feels Ntwari is not the best...

Following the goalkeeping shake-up at Kaizer Chiefs, Rwanda national team manager Adel Amrouche has discussed the tricky situation that Fiacre Ntwari finds himself in at the Soweto giants.

Ntwari started the season as the number one choice after being signed with lots of expectations from TS Galaxy.

Chiefs, however, could not get into form and the Rwandan was the scapegoat, being dropped and falling down the pecking order since a 4-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout quarterfinals.

Even though Bruce Bvuma has played a majority of the games since then, head coach Nasreddine Nabi made a surprise call in the Nedbank Cup final in selecting Brandon Petersen to the line-up against Orlando Pirates.

After the latter helped Amakhosi to their first trophy in a decade, it means the goalkeeping pecking order has undergone another shake-up.

Considering Ntwari is number one shot-stopper for the Wasps, who are in the same World Cup qualifying group as Bafana Bafana, KickOff.com solicited the reaction of Amrouche on this new development.

"No, I think they have a good goalkeeper coach (Ilyes Mzoughi) and coach Nabi is a good coach. I trust the coaches. The goalkeeper coach I know him from long time also," Amrouche said, speaking exclusively to this publication.

"But you know Ntwari is an international goalkeeper, he's number one for Rwanda, his people love him here, his teammates love him. Unfortunately, he did not make it in the (Nedbank Cup) final, but it's not the end, he can continue to work.

"With time, he's going to take the position as number one because he has a lot of quality."

With the side left with only two matches before wrapping up the season, should Ntwari start to look for another team for game-time ahead of 2025/26?

"We can't talk about the future, the season is not finished. We believe in the coaches. We can't force anyone, the coach is the boss.

"Of course, I want my goalkeeper to play, but with respect to the coach, I can't force any person. If the coach at this moment feels Fiacre is not the best, I respect the choice of the coach. The next season is another story.

"I want to take the opportunity to congratulate Nabi and all the fans of Chiefs because it's been a long time since they won (a cup).

"I wish they can give him time because he's a good coach, he can do a lot of things in that team," said the 57-year-old.

Rwanda will visit South Africa in their final World Cup qualifier in October. The East African nation beat Hugo Broos' charges 2-0 in Butare on matchday two.
