Gavin Lane ticket claims rubbished

Claims made by former Orlando Pirates centre-back Gavin Lane regarding struggling to get complimentary tickets for last Saturday's Nedbank Cup final between his ex-team and rivals Kaizer Chiefs have been addressed.

A displeased Lane poured his heart out to KickOff.com on Monday, citing the struggle he had to undergo just to secure a ticket to the blockbuster final at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Central to his dissatisfaction was another ex-Buccaneer, Eugene Zwane, who handles all things to do with the club's legends as mandated by the Soweto giants.

"I called the Orlando Pirates offices and reached out to Eugene Zwane to request two tickets to watch the game, either in the box or in the Fan Parks. But they don't seem to care about us legends," said 'Stability', at the time.

Now Zwane has provided his side of the story.

"What Gavin Lane is saying is not true. He never spoke to me about the Nedbank Cup final tickets. The tickets are managed by the Orlando Pirates office. I am not the intermediary for tickets.

"I only receive tickets if they are provided to us as a group, not as individuals. There is no way we, as Pirates legends, would be given tickets for a match in Durban, where Kaizer Chiefs are the home team in a Nedbank Cup final.

"Chiefs would likely keep any available tickets for their own legends.

"Unlike a league game played at Orlando Stadium or FNB Stadium, there were no tickets allocated this time. Therefore, what Gavin is claiming is not true. There is no basis for it," said the erstwhile midfielder, who went on to explain his exact role.

"I'm the coordinator of the Orlando Pirates Masters and Legends. My role involves liaising with the office regarding uniforms, games, payments, and so on.

"In this capacity, I'm like the manager of the Pirates legends, but I do not coordinate tickets. I want to make that clear.

"That is not part of my responsibilities."
