New DDC faces at Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have welcomed two new faces from the club's development as part of the club's first team for the 26/26 season.

The Soweto giants have so far announced seven new signings in the form of Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako and, most recently, Asanele Velebayi.

Strengthening the 25/26 team from the youth ranks are Thulani Mabaso, Naledi Hlongwane and Kabelo Nkgwesa. That trio was part of the club's travelling squad for their pre-season tour of the Netherlands last month,

However, two new faces have been spotted training with the first team. That pair is goalkeeper Naphtali Mokoena and midfielder Manqoba Ozoemena. Importantly, the latter was also part of Amakhosi's pre-season camp in Turkey in July 2024, but returned to the DDC by the time the Premiership season started.

They were spotted among the first team during the club's media open day on Tuesday and are expected to form a part of the club's youthful squad this season, with head coach Nasreddine Nabi having made it no secret of his admiration for young talent.

Additionally, Amakhosi appear to have found the winning recipe as far as producing talent is concerned; both Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala were among the club's best contributors in terms of goals and assists last season.

"We believe that the competition those players are going to face will make them better and improve their performances," Nabi told journalists at the Betway Premiership launch last week.

"Without competition, young players sometimes lose focus, and after a few months, they won’t be consistent.

"But we are going to need everyone to step up and raise their hands this season, not just Duba or Shabalala.

"We are going to need Naledi (Hlongwane), Thulani (Mabaso), and Matlaba (Nkgwesa) because of the developments this season."
