The end-of-season review of Kaizer Chiefs’ Betway Premiership campaign will make for depressing reading for those whose primary task is to score goals.
Chiefs closed off their league campaign having scored only 25 goals in the 28 games which they played for points this season.

They scored 40 goals less than champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
At 25 for the season, it means they averaged one goal every 100 minutes in the league, while Sundowns scored every 39 minutes.
So blunt was the Amakhosi attack that they failed to score in 10 games.
They scored t least thrice in a single match in only one game – the 3-1 win over AmaZulu FC in September last year.
They then scored twice in another five matches, leaving them with 22 league matches in which they scored once or failed to find the back of the net.
Their one goal games had a count of 12, exposing their lack of sharpness in attack.
Cape Town City and Polokwane City didn’t concede in all their games against Chiefs, while SuperSport United, Golden Arrows, Orlando Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns, Richards Bay FC, and Chippa United all had at least one game in which they prevented Amakhosi from scoring.
The 25 goals scored this term is the same as what they managed last season under Molefi Ntseki and Cavin Johnson.
It means for two seasons in a row, Chiefs have been ending the season with the same number of league goals scored by Collins Mbesuma in the 2004/05 season.
The Zambian banged 25 in 28 league matches for what remains the highest return in a single season throughout the PSL era years.
Congolese winger Glody Makabi Lilepo carried the scoring load on his shoulders with six in the league, while Wandile Duba had five, Mduduzi Shabalala got four, Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley Du Preez had three each.
Tashreeq Morris was a disappointment with his only claim to a goal at the Soweto giants being an effort against AmaZulu FC, which television replays suggest the last touch might not have even come from him.

With such a low scoring return, it means the Naturena-based side finished the season with a negative goal aggregate of minus seven, which is the worst ever for the club in the PSL era years.
Throughout their better days, Chiefs scored 73 goals during the 1998/99 season.
