Silence broken: SuperSport v Arrows to see the light

The deafening silence around the abandoned match between SuperSport United and Golden Arrows, which left interested observers infuriated, has now been broken.

It is a fixture that was pencilled in for 23 February but had to be put on hold at the halfway stage following a floodlights failure with loadshedding in effect.

With the match failing to be finished within the expected 48-hour period, the local football fraternity has since been waiting on news regarding a new date.

The longer the silence on the part of the PSL, the more the voices of discontent grew, especially seeing SuperSport have been sucked into a relegation scrapheap along with Cape Town City.

The game will now resume on Thursday, 29 May, as revealed by the Tshwane club on their official social media platforms.

The latter, as it stands, occupy 14th spot with 27 points after 28 games, while one position below is Matsatsantsa, who are one point behind. This means, with -12 goal difference as opposed to the Mother City outfit’s -16, a draw will be good enough for the men in Blue and White to avoid going to the play-offs.

Commenting on the issue while speaking exclusively to KickOff.com last week, City boss John Comitis said: "The verdict is a verdict; I'm not here to challenge the outcome of the hearing, but I want to say that Fair Play is not being observed.

"It's the last game of the season, and everyone should be playing, but there are two games left after the end of this week, both of which are significant in the play-off situation.

"I know this is not an easy or comfortable decision, but those two games should have been played today. All league games should be completed by Saturday, then nobody can complain about anything.

"This will restore credibility to the outcome of the season."

Kick-off is at 12:00.
