Liverpool needed the long route of a penalty shoot-out to see off Derby County after playing to a goalless draw in regulation time.
Roberto Firmino, who missed out on a call-up to the Brazil squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup, missed one of the Reds' penalties during the shoot-out.
However, as Derby missed five of their regular spot-kicks, it was left to Harvey Elliott to bag the winning kick and send the Reds through.

Tottenham Hotspur's chance at silverware this season were dealt a blow after suffering a 2-0 loss against Nottingham Forest.
