Manchester United fought back on two occasions to book a spot in the next round of the Carabao Cup with a 4-2 win over Aston Villa on Thursday evening.
Harry Maguire and Anthony Martial returned to the United line-up, whereas goalkeeper Martin Dubravka made his Red Devils debut after signing on loan from Newcastle United.
After losing to the same Villa in the Premier League on Sunday, the Red Devils looked for a quick start when Diogo Dalot's header at the back-post deflected just over the crossbar.
Unai Emery's men began to push forward a little over the half-way mark and came close where a corner-kick from Douglas Luiz forced a goal-line clearance from United's Scott McTominay.
As the clocked to halftime ticked away, Villa provided more trouble when another corner from Luiz picked out Ashley Young and the veteran volleyed wide of the mark.
Villa made their first-half dominance count when Ollie Watkins tucked in the opener with a neat finish beyond Dubravka following an assist from Jacob Ramsey.
It was short-lived though as the Red Devils clawed their way back when Martial raced down wide and steered home a cross from Bruno Fernandes
United looked to gain momentum, but trailed again around the closing quarter when Dalot turned a header at the back-post from Leon Bailey into his own net whilst attempting a clearance.
Three straight substitutions from United followed with Martial withdrawn for Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Elanga hauled in for Donny van de Beek before Fred made way for Christian Eriksen.
Parity was restored though towards the last 20 minutes as Marcus Rashford picked up a loose ball on the edge of the area and bundled in from close-range.
The Red Devils wrestled full control from the Clarets with 12 minutes to go after a misplaced pass by Olsen ended with Fernandes finding the back of the net with a deflected finish.
Another goal followed in added time when McTominay retrieved a delivery from Garnacho and bundled past Olsen and guided United to victory.
