Ruthless Chelsea advance to Carabao Cup final

Chelsea booked their spot in the final of the Carabao Cup after hammering Middlesbrough 6-1 in the second leg of their semi-final on Tuesday night.

The Blues made only two changes following their narrow win against Fulham in the Premier League, as Ben Chilwell and Mykhailo Mudryk were both recalled.

Chelsea were quick off the blocks as they went ahead within the first 12 minutes and levelled matters on aggregate thanks to an own goal by Jonathan Howson, who could not clear a cross.

Mauricio Pochettino's charges were all over Boro and Enzo Fernandez doubled their lead on the half-hour mark and made it 2-1 on aggregate after he pounced on a loose ball in the box.

Chelsea remained on the front foot and Axel Disasi gave them a 3-0 lead and a 3-1 lead on aggregate with a low strike in the box after he was teed up by Raheem Sterling.

The Blues were running riot just before the interval after a mistake at the back saw Cole Palmer making 4-0 and 4-1 on aggregate with a strike into a gaping net.

Pochettino brought on the fresh legs of the likes of Conor Gallagher and Alfie Gilchrist to inject new energy in the side after a slow start in the second stanza.

Palmer eventually made it 5-0 with 13 minutes to go, made it 5-1 on aggregate and got his brace after he was set up by Gallagher.

Gallagher was buzzing, as he notched up his second assist moments later to help Noni Madueke make it 6-0 and 6-1 on aggregate for Blues with a curling strike in the box.

Morgan Rogers scored a consolation goal for Middlesbrough in the last two minutes and made it 6-2 on aggregate, as the Championship side exited the tournament.

Chelsea will meet the winner between Liverpool and Fulham in the final.
