Kamwendo, who is regarded as one of Malawi’s most talented football exports, had a notable playing career that included a stint with the Sea Robbers in the South African Premier Soccer League.
He joined the Buccaneers in 2010 but was loaned out to Vasco Da Gama. His time with the Soweto giants helped elevate his profile on the continent and solidified his status as a key figure in Malawian football.
After hanging up his boots, Kamwendo transitioned into coaching, determined to give back to the game that shaped his career. In the TNM Super League, he coached teams like Bangwe All Stars FC and Creck Sporting Club, who recently fired him reportedly due to poor results.
Now at the helm of Villa FC, Kamwendo is tasked with steering the team toward promotion. His appointment reflects the growing trend of former professionals taking up leadership roles in African football.
The Mchinji-based outfit announced Kamwendo's appointment this week.

"It wasn’t an easy decision for me to accept this job, but having realised that the coaching panel has a childhood team mate, I felt obliged to come here and give back to my community," Kamwendo said, as quoted by Pan Africa Football.
