Aziz Ki potential suitors handed a lifeline

Stephane Aziz Ki, who was previously linked with a move to the Betway Premiership, could soon return to the transfer market amid reports that Wydad Athletic Club no longer want him.

Aziz Ki had been strongly linked with a move to South Africa for over a year before eventually joining Wydad in May.

Chiefs were reportedly interested in securing the player’s services, but the move never materialised.

However, those still keen on signing the skilful winger may now have renewed hope.

Reports from Morocco suggest that the Burkina Faso international no longer features in Wydad’s plans after failing to impress the club’s management — particularly head coach Amine Benhachem, who gave the attacker minimal playing time during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

It’s believed that Aziz Ki is now likely to leave the Casablanca-based club, who are also looking to reduce the number of foreign players in their squad.

Amid the uncertainty, Yanga SC’s media officer Ally Kamwe clarified that Aziz Ki’s move to Wydad was, in fact, a loan that could have become permanent.

“The contract Aziz Ki signed with Wydad had two clauses – a three-month assessment period, after which, if they were satisfied with his performance, they would extend his stay by two years,” said Kamwe, according to Tanzanian outlet Soka la Bongo.

He added that Wydad must notify Yanga by Thursday, 10 July if they intend to retain the player.

“Aziz Ki still has one year left on his Yanga contract. If no agreement is reached, he will return and be available for our first match of the new season in the Community Shield.”

As a result, Aziz Ki could become a free agent at the end of next season.

Should he choose not to sign an extension, interested clubs may be able to acquire him for a much lower fee than what Yanga might have demanded in the previous window.

At the time of writing, the situation is unfolding, with Wydad yet to formally confirm their position on the player.
