'Chiefs capable of beating Pirates, but...'

Concerns about Kaizer Chiefs have been raised with the clock ticking towards 70 hours before they meet arch-nemesis Orlando Pirates for Nedbank Cup honours down in the Banana City this weekend.

Chiefs travel to the coastal city armed with a desire to end a trophy drought that has refused to be suppressed for all of 10 years.

Former defender Mokete Tsotetsi has noted the side's biggest weakness in Soweto Derbies, with Nasreddine Nabi's men having just lost 2-1 to Bucs in the league over the weekend.

"This is a tricky fixture. Our boys haven't been performing well, to be honest," says the man known for his bone-crunching tackles in his heyday.

"This Chiefs team is capable of beating Pirates, but their lack of consistency is a significant challenge. That's why Pirates tend to have the upper hand in the derby, it's all about consistency.

"Chiefs usually play well in the first half, but in the second half, they can be quite different. The understanding and connection among the players play a crucial role in a game.

"However, I believe Chiefs will be looking to redeem themselves after what happened in the derby last week. I would like to see the coach introduce strategies that will surprise us," he adds.

Tsotetsi's prediction is for a penalty shootout win for the Glamour Boys.

"Although Pirates played against Golden Arrows on Tuesday and their coach rested some players, I believe Chiefs will triumph, especially with players like Relebohile Mofokeng acting as potential party spoilers for Pirates."

Kick-off is at 15:30.
