Kaizer Chiefs’ new signing Asanele Velebayi has reacted with excitement to his big move, though now amateur club Cape Town Spurs are not letting go without a fight.

Last week, Chiefs announced last week the signing of the 22-year-old as a free agent following a drawn-out pursuit stretching over two seasons.

Both the club and Velebayi have had to finalise the agreement as his former club Cape Town Spurs took the matter to the PSL Dispute Resolution Chamber, insisting he remains contracted to Spurs despite their relegation to the amateur ranks.

Ultimately, the winger, who argued against the Ikamva-based club's standpoint, won his case and joined up with his new teammates at Naturena last week.

"I’m a young man from Cape Town, originally from the Eastern Cape. I can’t even describe the feeling [of joining Kaizer Chiefs]," Velebayi told the Chiefs media department.

"When I heard the news that I was officially joining Kaizer Chiefs, the first thing I did was call my mother and family to share the good news. I was so happy.

"It has always been my dream to come here, and I aim to make the most of this amazing opportunity.

"I can play on the right, and as a number 10 as well, but my favoured position is wide on the left as a winger.

"I want to thank the supporters for the warm welcome I have received. I really hope we all have a wonderful season together," he added.

The club's Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr., added that Velebayi is considered a 'perfect fit' for the side.

"We are happy to finally have Asanele with us," he said.

"He is a great addition, and we believe he will add significant value because he is a perfect fit for our game model and the culture we have here at the Club."

The Khosi Nation will still have to wait longer to see their latest recruit as Spurs have filed an appeal with SAFA's Arbitration Tribunal over the PSL DC's ruling.
