R100k victory for SA player in Botswana

South African defender Thabiso Mokenkoane has won a breach of contract case against a club from Botswana in a matter that took the intervention of FIFA to bring to finality.

Mokenkoane, now 33, previously played for Eswatini giants Mbabane Highlanders and has also been with African Warriors in the lower divisions of South Africa.

According to Taelo Motloung, the secretary of FUSA (Football Players Union of South Africa), the significance of this victory cannot be overemphasised.

"Township Rollers have been found guilty by FIFA for failing to honour their contract with the player after FUSA escalated the matter to FIFA," reveals Motloung.

"We have repeatedly asked the club to pay what is owed to him, but they've been unwilling to cooperate.

"The club had him sign a contract, which they later terminated. This constitutes unfair termination of the contract and unpaid salaries," he continued.

Rollers have been ordered to pay the player an amount of R98,000, which they are required to do so within 45 days or risk a ban from signing new players.

"This ruling from FIFA is one of many cases we've taken to them and successfully won," says Motloung.
