Riveiro 'angry' at Ahly management over player move

Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has reportedly expressed his frustration with Al Ahly management over the potential departure of one of his key players.

The Spanish tactician, who took charge of the Egyptian giants in May, is in the process of shaping his squad for the 2025/26 Egyptian Premier League campaign.

Riveiro recently led Al Ahly during the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where the team was eliminated in the group stages and has since returned home.

Ahead of the tournament, Al Ahly made several signings and are now offloading certain players as they beef up and assemble their squad for the new season.

According to Al Jarida, the club has granted striker Wissam Abu Ali permission to leave in pursuit of opportunities abroad. The Danish forward is reportedly attracting strong interest from clubs in both the Gulf region and Europe.

Abu Ali is believed to have received several lucrative offers, fueling speculation about his imminent departure from the Red Devils.

The 26-year-old was one of the standout performers for Al Ahly during the Club World Cup, notably scoring a hat-trick against FC Porto in the final group stage match.

His performance has strengthened Riveiro’s desire to retain him. The report suggests that Riveiro sees Abu Ali as a valuable asset and wants him to stay, believing the striker can play a key role in his plans for the upcoming season.

"No matter how tempting the offer is, Wissam is irreplaceable," Riveiro briefly said, according to Al Jarida.

According to Transfermarkt, Abu Ali is under contract with Al Ahly until June 2028, having joined the club in January 2024.
