An outspoken former PSL footballer has come out to credit a particular individual following Amajita's exploits at the recently concluded U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Sipho Ndzuzo, who featured for the likes of Manning Rangers and Mamelodi Sundowns, believes ex-SAFA technical director Walter Steenbok deserves his share of credit for the latest developments concerning the national U20 side.

"Why did SAFA let go of the most qualified and intelligent technical person?" wonders Ndzuzo.
"We are not foolish as South Africans. We know who made effective changes at SAFA. Walter came in and shared his vision with many coaches, and they embraced it. That’s why SA football is on the rise today.
"Both the U17 and U20 teams have qualified (for the World Cup), and Bafana Bafana is close to qualifying as well.
"Thabo Mngomeni and David Nyathi are well-known names that emerged from the leadership of the former Technical Director. I am referring to Walter Baresi Steenbok, for those who may not know him. He played in the national first division and is from the Northern Cape.
"He represented university sports at the 1996 World Student Games as a player, holds two master's degrees, and is an expert in talent identification. He coached PSL teams Hellenic and Benoni United during the 2003/04 season and has attended numerous FIFA courses to enhance his skills," he adds, before opening up on SAFA operations.
"When someone becomes successful at SAFA, jealousy arises. The head of the organization does not want to be overshadowed. Walter's effective influence is evident in his vision and strategy for coaching education and methodology for the country. Despite having limited resources and budget allocations, he did his best and received some support from FIFA funding.

"He was poorly compensated and didn’t even have a vehicle for the extensive travel required for his work. Meanwhile, those who received resources were often those who aligned themselves with the president. Mr. President, football is not yours alone; it belongs to all of us South Africans.
"Walter Steenbok, we recognize and salute you for the work you have done for this country. Aluta Continua! Don't worry, history does not have blank pages. God loves us all."
