Mofokeng’s true market value ahead of next window...

Relebohile Mofokeng’s second full season in the first team at Orlando Pirates will end with transfer questions popping up again.

Mofokeng has grown at Pirates and will end the 2024/25 campaign with double numbers in both the goals and assists columns.

The 20-year-old has 12 goals and 14 assists and will be amongst the names mentioned next to Lucas Ribeiro Costa when decisions are made on the best player this season.

While football takes a breather for the Soweto giants after May 28, there will still be plenty to consider and chew around Mofokeng.

It is no doubt that his destiny is in Europe having already been on trials in the United Kingdom.

However, how he gets there is the big question considering that his move will have to come with a transfer fee which meets Pirates’ expectations and what the market dictates.

With that in mind, KickOff.com spoke to contacts in South America, North Africa, Gulf Region, and two in Europe with knowledge on the transfer of players from the African market.

The base figure placed on Mofokeng approximates to R40 million with add-ons considering his potential and age.

There could also be a case of R75 million being paid, but chances are slim at this stage while he is playing in Africa.

That Mofokeng’s value can grow is without doubt, but that will happen faster while he is in Europe.

What has been highlighted as a disadvantage for the former DStv Diski Challenge star is that for as good as he is, the fact is that he is a talent still playing in Africa and will need time to adjust to the demands of Europe.

It has been suggested his adjustment would be best suited to modest clubs in Belgium, Portugal or France.

This website has been told Pirates have been flooded with interest in Mofokeng for over a year, but they have set their own valuation.

"What happens during the next transfer window will again be of interest because Pirates will again be approached.

"What is without doubt is that the boy has potential of growing to be worth over R500 million in the next two to three years, but there is a process that needs to be understood," says one contact.
