Ex-Downs man 'in talks' with suitors in Gauteng

After Mamelodi Sundowns opting against exercising the option to renew, it has been revealed that a highly-rated midfielder who is also adept in defence is close to finding a new home.

The news emerged in early June that Sundowns had not exercised the option to keep Sipho Mbule at the club, after his loan deal expired at Sekhukhune United.

Even though he was strongly linked with a move Kaizer Chiefs, especially after his agent Mike Makaab revealed on social media that he offered him to Amakhosi and later apologized, he was surprisingly announced by Orlando Pirates.

It's a move that has set tongues wagging, all things considered.

Rivaldo Coetzee was another player whose contract the Chloorkop-based side chose not to extend, and the Kakamas-born star is close to finding a new team, according to his agent Makaab.

"Mamelodi Sundowns elected not to exercise the option, so as of 1 June, Rivaldo has been a free agent," Makaab, CEO of ProSport International, confirmed on Gagasi FM.

"We are talking to a number of clubs regarding him. I'm really hoping over the next week or so we will conclude a deal with one of the clubs we're talking to in SA and there are a number of them by the way."

Makaab was pressed on whether those teams are in Gauteng and one or two of the Big Three.

"To be honest, in the Gauteng region, no, not one of three. Honestly a number of football clubs."

Coetzee spent eight seasons at the Tshwane giants having joined from Cape Town Spurs (back then Ajax Cape Town) in 2017.

With competition for midfield places stiff , the 27-year-old eked out a living as a centre-back in the latter stages of his days at the club, which was actually his original position when he was signed.
