Bidvest Wits boosted by return to first-team training of midfielder Thabang Monare

The Secunda-born playmaker was forced to miss the Clever Boys’ 3-1 win over struggling Bloemfontein Celtic as he was still nursing the strain he sustained during the 2-0 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns towards the end of last month.

"It was a groin [injury] but this morning I trained with the team, but on the weekend I was still training alone,” Monare tells snl24.com/kickoff.

Monare says he is not at all worried about his position in the team after teammates Ben Motshwari and Xola Mlambo proved instrumental in the middle of the park on Friday.

"I'm happy we won and I'm happy the team played very well. Competition makes you a better player. If a teammate plays better than you in a game, then you know you must exceed the level of that player,” he says.

“You know no-one owns a position at Wits. I compete with good players like Ben Motshwari and Xola Mlambo, did you hear the names that I've just mentioned? Those are big names in South African football."

Though Friday’s result suggested he was not missed against Celtic, Monare is expected to go straight back into the starting XI tomorrow when Wits visits Chippa United in a league encounter at Sisa Dukashe Stadium (19h30).
