Latest on Ribeiro’s proposed transfer from Sundowns

Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s next destination has come down to two options as negotiations with his current employers, Mamelodi Sundowns, continue.

Ribeiro was the star man at the PSL awards on Tuesday taking home the Footballer of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, Top goal scorer award, and Goal of the Season.

With the awards out of the way and two productive years at Sundowns, Ribeiro has transfer matters to handle as he is wanted.

His two years at Chloorkop have come with 60 goal contributions in 88 appearances which included the FIFA Club World Cup where he scored the goal that was voted the best of the tournament.

There is solid interest on the table for the services of the 26-year-old from Brazil and Qatar.

Word from Brazil is that Fluminense sent their revised offer to Sundowns on Tuesday as they seek to compete with the higher bid from the club in Qatar.

Though the club in Qatar has put in the best offer, it is said Ribeiro prefers moving to Fluminense should Sundowns accept the transfer fee and give him their blessings to leave.

Fluminense will hand Ribeiro the dream of playing in the Brazilian Serie A in his home country.

It is said the left footer is excited about the prospect of returning to play home where his earnings will also be improved from what he is on at Sundowns.

The Rio de Janeiro-based club needs fresh attacking options with their recent domestic form having been terrible.

Head coach Renato Gaucho is exploring wide but having played against Ribeiro at the Club World Cup feels he is ready made for the club.

It has been noted that Ribeiro has two representatives pursuing his interests.

The Brazilian agent, who has a mandate for the Latin America market, is pushing for the Fluminense deal.

Sundowns will make the call about the club-to-club talks.

The Fluminense interest has been active since the Club World Cup while the club in Qatar put in their offer before then.

Six Brazilians, two of whom are based in Rio de Janeiro, who formerly played in the PSL are following Fluminense's interest in Ribeiro from close.
