If Marumo Gallants are found guilty of fielding Monde Mphambaniso "ineligibly" and forfeit points, could Kaizer Chiefs benefit and enter the MTN8?
After the PSL Disciplinary Committee decided against prosecuting Gallants for not obtaining a clearance certification, which is required before a player can be registered with the League.
Cape Town City, who were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, after they could not win the promotion/ relegation play-offs, lodged an appeal with the SAFA Arbitration Tribunal and have won the case, as announced on Monday.
City are arguing that Siwelele Sa Marumo should be prosecuted for fielding Mphambaniso "ineligibly", an offense which is punishable by a forfeiture of matches the player featured in or was on the bench, according to article 58.1 of the NSL Handbook.

With the PSL D.C. yet to preside over the matter, is is likely that the Mother City club could appeal to the High Court, if the League does not deem the matter as a misconduct.
Should City win the case, as reported by KickOff, Gallants are expected to forfeit 14 matches, seven wins and seven draws, in which the 32-year-old featured or was on the bench.
Such consequences would necessitate the updating of the Betway Premiership standings, crucially, with Gallants ending on four points and therefore in a play-off spot, after Royal AM also suffered points deductions and ended with zero points.
There could potentially be changes also to the standings regarding top eight teams, as points forfeited by the Bloemfontein side would also benefit the teams they beat or drew against being awarded walkover results (3-0 win score-lines).

Chiefs finished in ninth place, one point shy of the top eight and their 2-1 defeat to Gallant would be turned into a 3-0 win in such cases.
The Glamour Boys could get into the top eight, as they would gain three more points, up to 35 points and would equal eighth-placed Richards Bay (but with more goals scored), who would get two points (plus one point they already won), as they drew one game with Marumo (currently on 33 points) and therefore would drop down to ninth (seventh-placed Polokwane City, AmaZulu who are sixth and fifth-placed TS Galaxy would also benefit).
The CAF Confederation Cup place, third spot, may also not be affected, as Stellenbosch, who occupy that spot, two points ahead of fourth-placed Sekhukhune United, both completed a league double over Gallants in matches Mphambaniso participated in or was on the bench.
However, such calculations can only be confirmed by the League, should such a scenario prevail.
