Why Auba turned down Nkota's Ettifaq

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reportedly turned down a lucrative move to Mohau Nkota's new club, Al-Ettifaq, with the reason for his decision now seemingly revealed.

Al-Ettifaq are said to still be in the market for reinforcements.

Having already secured the signing of Mohau Nkota, the club has been linked with another South African, Relebohile Mofokeng, as well as Cameroon international Georges-Kévin N'Koudou.

The most high-profile name to be associated with Al-Ettifaq during this transfer window is Gabon international Aubameyang.

According to French newspaper L’Équipe, Aubameyang rejected a lucrative offer from Al-Ettifaq in favour of returning to France with Olympique Marseille.

The report claims that Al-Ettifaq made their move swiftly for the former CAF Men's Footballer of the Year after his contract with fellow Saudi side Al-Qadsiah was terminated by mutual agreement.

However, Aubameyang is said to be determined to return to Ligue 1, with his move to Marseille nearing completion.

It is believed the veteran centre-forward will undergo his medical this week before signing a two-year deal with the French club.

During his previous spell with Marseille, Aubameyang registered an impressive 30 goals and 11 assists in 51 appearances for the club.
