Drama continues for former Kaizer Chiefs priority striker target

A recent Kaizer Chiefs target identified as a priority striker signing as recently as July remains embroiled in contract controversy with his former club in an ugly contract standoff.

Chiefs' off-season target Musa 'Tombo' Kamara remains embroiled in controversy despite the lifting of a recent ban by the Sierra Leone national team.

Though the Soweto giants remain keen on adding firepower to their attack their interest in Kamara has suffered yet another setback.

The striker's previous club Bo Rangers demanded R3.4 million in a transfer fee from Chiefs, insisting Kamara was still on their books that was disputed by the player. Before ultimately announcing his release when already having signed for Libyan club Al Ittihad.

Kamara has now abandoned Ittihad within days of signing, citing security issues in the North African country while reportedly dramatically threatening suicide.

The Sierra Leone Football Association has since issued a statement titled 'outcome of investigations on controversies surrounding Musa Noah 'Tombo' Kamara regarding an alleged abandonment of a professional contract in Libya.

"Following a thorough investigation on controversies surrounding Musa Noah 'Tombo' Kamara regarding an alleged abandonment of a professional contract in Libya, the Sierra Leone Football Association has established that the Leone Stars striker signed a two-year contract with Al Ittihad Sports Club and registered under the Libyan Football Association.

"The said contract is valid from the 15th August, 2022 to the 14th August, 2024.

"SLFA would therefore like to urge Musa Noah 'Tombo' Kamara to respect his contract in Libya and carefully follow the FIFA guiding principles and international transfer rules.

"Consequently, the temporary suspension levied on Musa Noah 'Tombo' Kamara, to enable the said investigation, has been entirely lifted effective immediately," read a statement from the SLFA signed by Ibrahim Kamara, the head of media and marketing.

Reports have indicated that Kamara's push to have his contract in Libya annulled will come at a cost of USD 500 000 (R8,5 million) which is contained as a penalty clause in the contract that he signed.

The 22-year-old has been back in Sierra Leone and hasn't played competitive football for six months.

Arthur Zwane, the Chiefs coach, confirmed their interest in the striker at the beginning of this season.
