The latest relegation of Cape Town Spurs has sunk Ernst Middendorp to his third consecutive drop in just as many years.
Middendorp went down from the Betway Premiership to the Motsepe Foundation Championship last year after failing to keep Spurs afloat in the topflight despite being in charge for over half the season.

Into the Championship this season, the expectation was that he would get the club back up right away.
Unfortunately, instead of competing for promotion, the German gaffer sunk into the relegation crisis and the Urban Warriors’ drop was confirmed over the weekend.
They will now drop into the ABC Motsepe League Western Cape Province division.
Middendorp also suffered relegation in his last coaching job back home in Germany prior to what has since happened at Spurs.
The veteran coach couldn’t save SV Meppen as they went down to the fourth tier (Regionalliga Nord) of German football.
He has also previously been relegated from the Bundesliga with Arminia Bielefeld.
Yet with all this, Middendorp has frequently proven how he never stays long without a job.
Since his first coaching job in South Africa in 2005, he has held 21 jobs, some of which came regardless of what had happened in his previous assignment.
From the first stint at Chiefs, which yielded two trophies, Middendorp went to Bielefeld, Changchun Yaytai in China, Rot Weiss Essen in Germany, then Anorthosis Famagusta in Cyprus, before returning to South Africa.

In the PSL, he has been with Maritzburg United four times, then Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United, Free State Stars, Moroka Swallows, and a second stint with Chiefs.
There have also been stints in Ethiopia and Tanzania along the way, proving how popular Middendorp is with employers.
