The Premier Soccer League has announced a new development regarding the end-of-season awards, with Mamelodi Sundowns set to win big after yet another stellar domestic season.
Sundowns were crowned champions of the inaugural Betway Premiership season and were presented with the new trophy after defeating Magesi FC 2-0 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.

With that they have ensured their presence as league champions in the awards ceremony that is usually held around June.
Not only that, but the Tshwane giants have also had several players standing up to feature in conversations around the individual awards on offer, most notably Lucas Ribeiro Costa.
The Brazilian playmaker has scored goals by the bucket load this season and looks a shoo-in for the Golden Boot barring a miracle from the players whose clubs still have a game or so remaining.
To that end, the 26-year-old is also favourite for the biggest of all accolades, the Footballer of the Season.
However, word coming from the League is that the highly anticipated event has been shelved for a later date. This is due to Sundowns’ upcoming commitments in the FIFA Club World Cup.

STATEMENT ON THE 2024/25 PSL AWARDS CEREMONY
In recent seasons, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Awards Ceremony has traditionally been held during the month of June.
However, due to Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club’s participation in both the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2024/25 CAF Champions League Final, the League has taken the decision to postpone this season’s PSL Awards Ceremony.
The PSL, its Member Clubs, and all stakeholders in professional football across the country are united in their support for Mamelodi Sundowns as they fly the flag for South African football at these prestigious events.
The League will communicate the new date and further details of the Awards Ceremony in due course.
