Vitesse coach on Chiefs: This is a big team

With Kaizer Chiefs having suffered defeat at the hands of Vitesse, the manager of the Dutch club insists that his side were the deserving winners of the match.

Chiefs began their pre-season campaign in the Netherlands with a losing start, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Vitesse on Tuesday evening.

Reeve Frosler gave the South African side the lead in the 37th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box.

However, that lead didn’t last long, as Vitesse drew level immediately after half-time before snatching the winner in the 74th minute.

While it was a disappointing start for Chiefs, it was quite the opposite for Vitesse manager Rüdiger Rehm, as it was his first unofficial game in charge following his appointment on 1 July.

Speaking after the match, Rehm said their victory was deserved.

Speaking to Dutch broadcaster Omroep Gelderland, Rehm said: "In the first half, we were perhaps still a little too passive."

"We had some trouble applying good pressure, and the distances were sometimes too large. But after the break, things improved.

"The second half was good, and the victory was therefore deserved.

"We showed good spirit and were strong in the duels.

"This (Chiefs) is a big team, and we want to compete with this kind of opponent and beat them."
