Sneijder's son to get minutes against Chiefs?

The son of Netherlands legend Wesley Sneijder could make his next senior appearance against Kaizer Chiefs later this week.

It is not uncommon for the children of professional footballers to follow in their fathers’ footsteps.

Over the past year, we’ve seen burgeoning prodigies such as Samuel Eto'o’s son, Etienne, as well as Robin van Persie’s teenage talent, Shaqueel van Persie, make headlines.

Another example is Sneijder’s son, Jessey Sneijder, who is eager to make his mark at FC Utrecht.

Aged 18, the young attacking midfielder made his unofficial debut for Utrecht’s first team last week in a 2-0 friendly win over Cercle Brugge.

Utrecht are next set to face Chiefs on Friday, 11 July, and Sneijder’s son has not been ruled out of contention for the match after earning his initial breakthrough into the senior squad.

Utrecht boss Ron Jans discussed the Dutch prodigy, telling SoccerNews: "I always find that difficult, because we also have Gustav Sundqvist, Georgios Charalampoglou and Shedrach Ebite.

"Then Jessey gets singled out. That’s the burden and the beauty he carries. Of course, he’s Wesley’s son, but he’s with us because he’s a good footballer. The fact that he has a famous father is another matter."

Jans added: "He does have his father's feel for the ball, but he’s still very young. He just moved up from the Under-19s to the reserves. Physically, he’s not a big lad yet, but he has good game awareness and strong technique."
