The former Bafana Bafana coach, addressing a press conference in Mbabane after the team's elimination from the 2010 race, said he was proud of his players' performance despite the disappointing result.
"The players must be complimented for what they have done for their country from the start of the tournament up to now. They have showed commitment in their game and discipline was in the forefront even after the games," Mashaba told Swazi reporters.
"We are disappointed with the outcome of the game as we were also hoping to win so that we would qualify for the next stages of the tournament. But things did not work to our favour in Ghana.
We lost this game to a better team as the opposition had recalled all the international players.
They were able to create scoring opportunities and score the goals because our defence was not technically good, having allowed the opposition to play.
“We were forced to make a substitution two minutes into the game after Mlungisi Ngubane got injured," Mashaba said.
Mashaba's own future as Swazi coach is now unclear with little on the international horizon for the kingdom's team.
