New Blues signing Liam Delap was named on the bench as Nicolas Jackson started in the attack, while former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper started for the MLS outfit.
The decision to include Jackson paid off as the Senegalese forward threaded a through-pass for Pedro Neto on 34 minutes, before the winger showed good composure to lose his marker and fired in at the near post.

The change paid off as Delap turned provider in the 79th minute by picking out Enzo Fernandez, who controlled well before firing past Hugo Lloris.
Maresca's charges will be in action on Friday once again, as they take on Flamengo.
Botafogo 2-1 Seattle Sounders
Brazilian outfit Botafogo registered a 2-1 win over Major League Soccer side Seattle Sounders.
Jair put the Brazilians ahead in the 28th minute, before Igor Jesus doubled the advantage before the halftime break.
Cristian Roldan did pull one back for Sounders with 15 minutes left on the clock, but Botafogo were able to hold out for the win.
Palmeiras 0-0 FC Porto
Palmeiras and FC Porto could not be separated after playing to a goalless draw on Monday morning.
It remains all level in Group A as all four sides are on a point each after the first game.
Palmeiras will now turn their attention to Thursday's clash against Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
