Chelsea dent Man City's title charge

Manchester City will end the weekend four points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool following a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Saturday evening.

Manuel Akanji, Jeremy Doku and Julian Alvarez came back in from the win over FC Copenhagen, while Raheem Sterling and Levy Colwill showed Chelsea's changes from the team that defeated Crystal Palace on Monday.

Alvarez looked to get stuck in instantly through a shot on the go following Erling Haaland's errand control, but the Argentine shaped the effort wide of target.

Chelsea showed resistance and outlined their first threat when Sterling surged in behind from Caicedo's flick on though curled safely into the arms of Ederson Moraes.

Ederson was called again minutes apart when he stood firm on his goal-line to guide Nicolas Jackson's telling shot following a move up-field.

The Brazilian were breached though four minutes to halftime after Jackson beat the offside trap to collect Malo Gusto's pass and squared for Sterling to arrow in the net.

Chelsea's lead came under threat five minutes in the second half through a free-kick from close-range by Kevin De Bruyne following a foul on Rodri Hernandez, but he hit the side-netting.

The host battled to open up the visitors, who were high in confidence and continued to enjoy the lion share of momentum in the last third.

Given all that, the Citizens turned attention to the bench at the midway point and decided to bring on Bernardo Silva in the place of Alvarez.

Chelsea couldn't sustain the lead and saw the champions level when Rodri got in the box to steer in a loose ball following Kyle Walker's half-volley.

In the end, the spoils were shared and dented the Citizens chance to regain second spot and keep the pressure on Liverpool.
