Manchester United secured their spot in the final Carabao Cup with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the second leg of their semi-final on Wednesday night.
Goalkeeper David De Gea, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia and Marcus Rashford dropped to the bench, with Tom Heaton, Luke Shaw, Alejandro Garnacho, Raphael Varane and Fred recalled by United manager Erik ten Hag.
Casemiro, who starred against Reading in the FA Cup, nearly continued his rich vein of form with a looping header from a floated ball early on but Forest goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey steered away.
Forest had a rare moment in the attacking-third later on when Emmanuel Dennis' snap shot towards the net hit teammate Sam Surridge as the follow-up was cleared away.
United went the closest to going ahead on the stroke of halftime after an angled header in the area from Wout Weghorst hit the base of the upright.
The Red Devils were close to going ahead over ten minutes in the second half where smart play and quick feet left of the area by Garnacho led to a near post shot that put Hennessey to work.
A trio of changes from the Red Devils on 63 minutes saw Rashford come on for Garnacho and Anthony Martial in for Weghorst before Antony made way for the returning Jadon Sancho.
The alterations were inspired after 73 minutes where Martial helped a snapped shot from Rashford into the bottom-corner after the two had combined.
United bagged the second goal six minutes later when Fred charged in unmarked at the near post of the area and bundled in a cutback from Rashford.
However, Forest threatened to pull one back eight minutes to the end from a first-time shot outside the area by Dennis but Heaton parried before seeing the follow-up hoofed.
The Red Devils in the end survived the final minutes and secured a spot in the Carabao Cup final to face Newcastle United on February 26.
