A few names have been linked with the head coach role since then, including out-going Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro.

According to Marca, Spanish coach Xavier Garcia Pimienta has been in negotiations with the reigning African champions for the head coach position.

Garcia, who coached the Barcelona B team, is a free agent after he was sacked by LALIGA outfit Sevilla in April following the team's poor run of results.

The report adds that that Al Ahly hope to see the Spanish tactician managing the team at the FIFA Club World Cup next month.

Al Ahly were drawn in Group A against Palmeiras, FC Porto and Lionel Messi's Inter Miami.
