SA star 'set for Turkey tour' with CAF CL Champions

With the 2025/26 season fast approaching, Pyramids FC appears to have decided on the future of South African striker Fagrie Lakay.

Lakay joined the Egyptian Premier League side in January 2022 from Cape Town City and initially impressed with a string of strong performances.

However, his time with the Sky Blues took a turn when he was loaned out to fellow Egyptian club Ceramica Cleopatra FC in October 2024, after falling out of favor under head coach Krunoslav Jurcic, who preferred Fiston Mayele.

The 28-year-old’s loan spell at Cleopatra proved successful, as he found good form and helped the team win the Egyptian League Cup.

Following the end of the season, reports emerged suggesting Cleopatra would sign Lakay permanently from the reigning CAF Champions League winners by activating his buy-out clause.

However, a new report from North African outlet Mes7at indicates that the pacey forward will instead re-join Pyramids in Turkiye for their pre-season training camp.

According to the report, Pyramids will begin their pre-season preparations in the European country this week, and Lakay, the former SuperSport United and Bidvest Wits, is expected to be part of the squad.

If confirmed, Lakay will be competing for the number nine role with other strikers, including the in-form Mayele, who is also expected to return despite speculation about a possible move from the club.
