FCSB boss to rely on Ngezana: I am tired

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Siyabonga Ngezana continues to shine at FCSB, with the club’s owner backing him as the first-choice centre-back for the new season.

The 27-year-old player's career has soared since joining the Romanian SuperLiga champions in June 2023 from the Glamour Boys.

His performances have not gone unnoticed. At one point, he was named SuperLiga Defender of the Season by prominent Romanian sports publications.

The Bafana Bafana centre-back has since collected two consecutive league titles with FCSB and earned several individual accolades along the way.

Following FCSB’s 1-1 draw against FC Hermannstadt in their opening league match on Saturday, club boss Gigi Becali publicly affirmed that Ngezana will be the club’s first-choice centre-back moving forward.

This decision comes after head coach Elias Charalambous initially opted to start Bosnian defender Daniel Graovac over the Sebokeng-born defensive stalwart.

"What can you say? You have nothing to say, no offense to Graovac, but there's no comparison, there just isn't, [but]If I had Ngezana," Becali said per Digi Sport.

"There's a big difference. The central defenders are Siyabonga Ngezana and Popescu.

"I think they'll play every three days and that's it. I'm not doing any more grinding, I'm tired.

"Mihai Popescu played the clock. That is now over, there are no longer two teams, there is only one team."
