Following Wydad Athletic Club’s early exit from the FIFA Club World Cup, it has emerged that some of the team's board members are pushing for a change in leadership, raising concerns about Rulani Mokwena's successor.
After Mokwena’s departure toward the end of April, just three matches before the season ended, Moroccan manager Mohamed Amine Benhachem stepped up from his role as sporting director to take charge of the team.

Interestingly, under his guidance, Wydad won all three remaining league games and finished third in the Botola Pro League table and booked their spot in next season's CAF Confederation Cup.
This strong finish earned Benhachem, who holds the UEFA Pro Coaching Licence, a two-year contract and the responsibility of leading the team at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
However, things did not go as wished in the United States. The Moroccan giants were eliminated in the group stage without registering a single win.
Drawn in Group G alongside European heavyweights Manchester City and Juventus, as well as Al Ain FC from the UAE, the Red Castles failed to make an impact.
Ahead of the 2025/26 season, Moroccan publication Le Site Info reports that several Wydad board members have urged club president Hicham Ait Mena to relieve Benhachem of his duties.

Their dissatisfaction reportedly stems from the team’s underwhelming performance on the world stage. Despite this internal pressure, Mena is said to still back the 50-year-old coach and considers him the right man to lead the club into the new season.
