African team's management 'at odds' over possible Rulani appointment

The management of a prominent African club is reportedly divided over the potential appointment of South African coach Rulani Mokwena.

According to recent reports from North Africa, Algerian giants MC Alger have approached Mokwena regarding the possibility of taking over as their new head coach.

This follows the club's recent decision to part ways with Tunisian coach Khaled Ben Yahia, who lasted only six months in charge despite winning the league title.

In the wake of Ben Yahia’s departure, the club's leadership has been actively seeking a replacement, with Mokwena reportedly one of three candidates shortlisted for the role.

Mokwena has been making headlines across the continent since his departure from Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club in May, following what the club described as a disappointing run of results.

Amidst mounting speculation over his potential move to Alger, new reports suggest that Mokwena’s name has sparked division within the club’s hierarchy.

According to Sport Le360, Alger’s management is currently at odds, with some viewing the 38-year-old tactician as the ideal candidate to lead the team forward, while others remain opposed to his appointment.

More so, critics within the Elders have reportedly cited his failure to secure next season's CAF Champions League spot with Wydad as a key concern.

However, Mokwena continues to attract interest from several clubs. He has been linked with Egyptian side Pyramids FC and is believed to have turned down offers from teams in the Gulf region.
