With the 2025/26 season fast approaching, former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has reportedly issued a stern warning to his Al Ahly players as the team prepares to return to training.
The Egyptian Premier League giants are expected to start their pre-season preparations on July 14, following a short break after their disappointing exit from the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Ahly’s performance in the tournament fell short of expectations. Despite entering as one of Africa's most successful clubs, they were eliminated in the early stages, raising concerns over squad fitness and overall match sharpness.
The underwhelming showing, which included a loss to Palmeiras and draws against FC Porto and Inter Miami, has prompted the technical team to reassess their preparations ahead of the upcoming domestic and continental campaigns.
In response, the Spanish tactician mentor is taking no chances as he is said to be instilling discipline and ensuring his squad is physically ready for the demanding season ahead.
According to Ahly News, the Spanish tactician has mandated that all players follow individualized training programs during the off-season to maintain their weights.
The report further stated that Riveiro has issued a clear warning that any player who returns to camp overweight or fails to meet the required fitness standards will face disciplinary action.

Moreover, this move is seen as part of a broader effort to raise performance levels. As part of their pre-season schedule in Tunisia, the Red Devils are reportedly set to face USM Constantine and Esperance de Tunis.
In addition, Ahly News has emphasised that these friendlies are aimed at sharpening the squad’s competitiveness and assessing tactical readiness before the start of the new campaign.
