Al Ahly are said to have reached an agreement with a Portuguese coach amid Orlando Pirates mentor Jose Riveiro's links with the club.
The Egyptian Premier League powerhouse have recently parted ways with Marcel Koller, despite his achievements, which include winning multiple major titles, including two CAF Champions League trophies.
After the departure of the Swiss coach, the 12-time Champions League victors have been frequently associated with several managers to fill the void left by Koller.

The Pirates' head coach Riveiro, who is expected to leave the Soweto giants at the end of the season, has been amongst those mentioned as potential successors to Koller at Ahly.
Additionally, it has been reported that the Red Devils have already dismissed the prospect of reappointing former coach Pitso Mosimane.
However, as per a report from the Saudi publication Al-Youm, referenced by Algomhor.com, discussions between Al Ahly and Portuguese manager Jose Gomes are in progress.

The report has highlighted that the experienced coach, who is now managing Saudi club Al-Fateh, and the Red Devils have reached a provisional agreement as they wish to finalize things before the Club World Cup begins in June.
According to Transfer Markt, Gomes's current contract with Al-Fateh will expire at the end of the season.
