Ahly interim coach 'refuses' to work with Riveiro

Egyptian football giants Al Ahly are facing a key backroom staff shake up, as interim head coach has reportedly turned down an offer to continue with the club under incoming manager Jose Riveiro.

Emad El Nahhas, a club legend, took charge of the Red Devils in April following the dismissal of CAF Champions League-winning Swiss manager Marcel Koller.

The Egyptian legend has since been leading the team through the final stretch of the 2024/25 season and is on the verge of securing the Egyptian Premier League title.

According to reports from Egypt, including Saudionportal.com, Ahly’s management had hoped to retain El Nahhas as part of Riveiro’s backroom staff, leveraging his deep understanding of the club and local football.

However, El Nahhas has reportedly declined the offer to work alongside Riveiro, the former Orlando Pirates coach, who is expected to be officially unveiled later this week.

It is reported that this comes after the Spanish mentor had reportedly turned down the idea of working with Nahhas, which was recommended by the club's board members.

El Nahhas will lead the Red Devils in their final league match against Pharco FC on Wednesday, May 28, at the Cairo International Stadium.

Reports suggest that El Nahhas is exploring head coaching opportunities elsewhere in the Egyptian Premier League, with several clubs believed to have shown interest in securing his services.

As Al Ahly prepares for the Riveiro era, the decision marks a significant shift in the club’s coaching strategy and signals El Nahhas’ intent to continue his career in a leading role away from the Red Devils.
