Why Pyramids' league game 'can't be postponed' ahead of Downs clash

The Egyptian Professional Clubs Association has reportedly revealed why they can't postpone the Pyramids league game despite the team facing Mamelodi Sundowns in a two-legged CAF Champions League final.

Before the first leg of the tie, Pyramids requested that their Egyptian Premier League match against Ceramica Cleopatra be postponed for them to focus on continental football.

However, their plea has seemingly been rejected, a ruling that left the Blues Sky fuming at the Clubs Association, claiming they do not treat them like Al Ahly and Zamalek.

Pyramids will have to now first shift commitment to the league as they are set to go against Ceramica on May 28, just four days before the Champions League second leg match.

After their 1-1 draw against Masandawana at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday in the first leg, the Egyptian side will host the South African giants at the 30 June Stadium on Sunday in Cairo.

The Clubs Association are now said to have given reasons on why they can't suspend the match to allow Pyramids prepare for a crucial second leg Champions League against Sundowns.

"The first reason is that, in accordance with the principle of equal opportunity, the matches between Pyramids and Ceramica Cleopatra, and Al Ahly and Pharco, must be held at the same time, given the competition between the two teams for the title," a source said, per Aboutmsr.com.

"In accordance with the same principle, the matches between Ceramica Cleopatra, Al-Ahly Bank, and Al-Masry should be held at the same time, given the three teams' competition for fourth place.

"At the same time, Pyramids is scheduled to face Zamalek in the Egypt Cup final on June 5, while Al Ahly will travel to the United States on June 4 or 5 to participate in the Club World Cup.

"Ceramica Cleopatra and Al-Ahly Bank are also involved in the semi-final matches of the Egyptian Capital Cup," added the informant.

"All of these factors make it difficult to postpone the match, as there is no alternative date for it to be held, and the league is not being stubborn against Pyramids."
