Mokwana closing in on Saudi move

Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana is on the verge of securing a move to Saudi Arabia from Esperance de Tunis, according to the latest information obtained by KickOff.

Mokwana has been one of the most sought-after players following his standout performances at the recently concluded FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

The South African star had been linked with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hazem, while Russian Premier League clubs FC Dynamo Makhachkala and FK Khimki were also reportedly interested in acquiring his services.

KickOff reported that Al-Hazem initially submitted a formal bid to Esperance in an attempt to secure Mokwana on a permanent basis.

However, the deal stalled, reportedly due to Esperance’s asking price, which was believed to be around $1.14 million (approximately R20 million).

Nonetheless, in a new development, the Tunisian powerhouse now appears to have agreed on terms for a loan deal with Al-Hazem, with an option to buy the former Sekhukhune United winger.

"The two teams seem to have agreed that he joins Hazem on a loan deal, with an option to buy permanently," a source told KickOff.com.

According to iDiski Times, the move is subject to a medical, and Mokwana is expected to sign the deal within the next few hours.

Mokwana will link up with Bafana teammate Mohau Nkota in the Saudi Pro League, who recently joined Al-Ettifaq from Orlando Pirates.
