Hugo Broos all-but confirms Percy Tau transfer to Al Ahly

Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos has seemingly confirmed Percy Tau's impending move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Broos announced his 23-man squad for next month's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on Tuesday afternoon and included Percy Tau in his selection despite the forward's struggles for game time at Brighton Hove Albion.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star is yet to feature for the Premier League side this season and has been strongly linked with a move to reigning Egyptian and African champions Al Ahly, who are managed by his former coach Pitso Mosimane.

Speaking on SABC Sport following the squad announcement, Broos admitted that he was concerned by Tau's current situation with the Seagulls but hinted that everything could change in the coming days.

"He is an important player for Bafana Bafana," Broos said. "If Percy does not play in the next months, I have a problem.

"But I heard some good news, I think he will not stay at Brighton and he will go to the Egyptian team with the South African coach, Pitso, Al Ahly. I think in the next days it will be done and then he will have a chance to play, so there will be less of a problem for the future."

The Belgian tactician's comments come just days after he previously revealed his wish for Tau to part ways with Brighton in favour of a return to football on the African continent.

"I hope he can leave Brighton and he can go to a club, they speak about Egypt with Pitso who's in Al Ahly," Broos said last week Thursday. "It should be a very good thing for them because there's someone who knows him."
