After Mamelodi Sundowns were crowned league champions for an eighth consecutive season, the departure of Jose Riveiro from Orlando Pirates could guarantee their continued dominance.
Pirates made a huge effort to close the huge gap between number one and two, with Riveiro instrumental in the exponential growth, especially considering the club did not make big signings to match Sundowns on quality in personnel.

With Bucs set to be under a new mentor next season, Riveiro, who was released early from his contract, has suggested it would take more than just his now former club to make the league competitive next season or in future.
"Something is changing, in my opinion, step by step. It's not something you're gonna change in six, 10 or 20 months, it takes time. It's (Sundowns) a strong side, everybody knows everything is set for them to dominate the league from the first game until the last one," Riveiro said as he departed the country on 947's MSW.
"They force you to keep the rhythm in terms of points. It's so difficult to handle, to resist, but I don't think it's a Pirates problem. But, like I said, we're fighting with a points machine. They have pushed the points to become champions to 70. It used to be 60. That's not easy.

The last team to reach at least 60 points other than Sundowns is the now defunct Wits when they were crowned champions in 2016/17.
The Brazilians have breached the 70-point mark for three seasons in a row.
