With Jose Riveiro set to be unveiled at Al Ahly, reports about when negotiations between the two parties started have revived speculation of Monnapule Saleng possibly following suit.
Saleng has been unsettled at Pirates since early December and has not kicked a ball officially at club level in 2025.

It has been alleged in the media that what created an impasse between the players and Bucs management was the collapse of a deal to Al Ahly ahead of the January transfer window.
Reports coming out of Egypt state that the record African champions started negotiations with Riveiro in February and his reported arrival in Cairo could see them reignite interest in the former Free State Stars forward, who was on their radar.
The Spaniard could not deny the possibility of signing one of Pirates players for his new club, although he stressed he would not be directly involved.
"Pirates is full of talent, future prospects, but that's not my role. In modern football, we as coaches obviously have a say in players who are coming and going, but it belongs to the strategical side of the business, in this case for Orlando Pirates and whichever club that wants to have a look of our talents here" Riveiro said on 947's MSW.

The 27-year-old was touted as a possible replacement for Percy Tau at the Red Devils in January and with Riveiro set to be their next coach, he attacker could reunite with the much-loved tactician, should the contractual matters with his current employers be sorted out.
