Galaxy climb up to 7th after late win over Chippa

TS Galaxy climbed up to seventh in the Betway Premiership standings after a late 1-0 win over Chippa United on Saturday evening.

Galaxy recalled Keagan Dolly, Dzenan Zajmovic, Mpho Mvelase and Puso Dithejane as four changes from the draw against Polokwane City during the week.

Chippa named virtually the same side that thrashed Magesi in midweek, with Bienvenu Eva Nga and Sinoxolo Kwayiba leading the attack.

The Chilli Boys were quick off the blocks in the opening exchanges, as Thabang Malaoa and Eva Nga had headers in the box that missed narrowly wide.

The Rockets got into the game midway into the first stanza as Zajmovic also had an opportunity with a header in the box that was smothered by goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.

Adnan Beganovic's charges gained momentum as eight minutes before the interval Dolly came close to breaking the deadlock with a strike from the edge of the box that was kept out by Nwabali and the sides went to the interval without goals.

Chippa started the second stanza quickly again and had chances but were let down by their finishing.

Galaxy needed to get into the game on the hour-mark as they brought on the fresh legs of Sphesihle Maduna in place of Dolly and Thokozani Sibanyoni came on for Zajmovic.

Galaxy started to pressurize Chippa after that and with ten minutes to go, Damir Sovsic eventually broke the deadlock five minutes after coming on with a strike from just outside the box following a corner situation.

The game was on the edge in the dying minutes, as Chippa also threatened to salvage a point but The Rockets held on for maximum points, as they climbed up to seventh on the log.
